Ted Pennington | Nashville Mix Engineer, Producer, Musician

Services

Audio Engineering

I am available for any phase of the recording process from basic tracking to overdubs, etc.  Typically billed on a per-hour or per-day rate.  I am available locally here in Nashville and can also travel to a studio in your town or work remotely (described below).

Mixing

Mixing of your existing (multitrack) recordings or mixing of recording that I've tracked for you. Typically I charge on a per-song or per-project basis. Pro tools files preferred, but contact me for other mixing options.

Production

From one song to an EP to a full length record, I am available to orchestrate every element of the recording process and help you realize your vision as an artist or songwriter.  For a more detailed description of what a music producer actually does, look here.

We are fortunate here in Nashville to have some of the most talented session players in the world working here, and they are ready and willing to play on your project. We also have a very wide range of fantastic studios and it is possible to custom tailor the recording facility/experience to your specific needs for space, equipment, and vibe.

Remote Work

A lot of the mix work I do happens remotely, without the client being in the room or even in the state. With the tools and technology available today, I am able to mix your project, send you mixes for approval/revisions, and collaborate via phone, email, and video conferencing.

In addition, I can even remotely engineer your session using Source Connect, working with you and other musicians remotely.  This is a great option for those that would like to record themselves or have musicians outside of Nashville that they would like to collaborate with.  From my studio in Nashville, I am able to provide technical guidance as to mic placement and other engineering techniques to ensure you get the best possible sounds to tape, while freeing you from the task of operating Pro Tools during the session and allowing you to concentrate fully on the music.

Mastering

Professional mastering is a critical last step before sending your recordings off for pressing or releasing them online. While I am not a dedicated mastering house, I am happy to recommend a great mastering engineer. For the budget conscious, I am happy to take similar steps that a mastering engineer would in making your recordings competitive with regard to loudness, but always recommend that you consider hiring a professional, dedicated mastering engineer who is able to put a fresh set of ears on your project before you send it out the door.

Live Sound (FOH/Monitors/Tour Management)

Time and schedule permitting, I am available for live sound work for your local show or out of town tours. Whether it's a crowd of a few hundred, or a few thousand, I can help ensure that you and your band sound great both on stage, and out front. I am comfortable on a wide range of digital and analog live consoles, and a variety of live sound equipment. While the skill set, tools, and techniques used in live sound are a bit different than those I use in the studio, the common factor is that a great set of experienced ears can go a long way toward making your show a success. Contact me for more details.
